Frugal Encouragement and What Is In Your Hand Inspiration
Being asked to take an afternoon to encourage a young woman friend, I was the one encouraged. Listening to the wisdom of the other women also invited brought joy to my heart. Time spent with like-minded people can often bring refreshment and renewed vision. It was however something the young woman said that made me smile inside. This young woman's daughter had an adorable headband on her toddler head. In conversation my friend mentioned that she had made the headband from an old t-shirt. Simple action, limited sewing needed, not profound, but to me precious.
Challenging financial circumstances and difficult life choices were adding pressure to my friend's already busy life. And although this was a season of hard things, my young friend was finding ways to keep a positive attitude and bring beauty to her family by using what was in her hand. I was encouraged just like I am encouraged by the other frugal people I know who seek to make life work. Sometimes just doing some of the little things can keep one going and bring satisfaction to an arduous period of life.
So here are some links to offer "what is in your hand" inspiration:
Do you have any old jeans that need a new life?
Perhaps a bag of old t-shirts you are not sure what to do with?
Or some old books you don't want to throw away?
If you are having a difficult day or a challenging season of life, take a few moments to see what you have in your hand and use it to add some beauty, be it practical, or otherwise to your home. I think it will bring satisfaction!
Any other ideas for using old jeans, t-shirts or books?

This was an encouragement to me as I prepare to “redo” my basement after my son marries Dec. 31. He has been living in the family room for five years. This was planned; and all along I had “future plans.” We bought two cars this year, so my ideas of “new” furniture are out the window. I will be using a 30-year-old lightly used living room furniture, fabric from two houses ago for windows and pillows and heaven knows what else, and refinishing tables. I have no idea where this will end up but I will blog about my “woman cave” when finished. Upstairs, it’s sports all.the.time. In the basement, I can play the piano and watch History Channel if I want! Thanks for inspiring me!

I do want to be notified of other comments. I could learn a thing or two.

I love these posts What’s in your hand…
The T-shirt repurposing is something I’m always interested in for sure–T-shirts is something we as a nation have an over abundance of! LOL…
I liked the jeans/t-shirt pot holder, the tissue holder, from the old t-shirt (45ways)post!
I must say- you have a very teachable spirit. I like that in people who teach! We are never so knowledgeable, NOT to keep learning!
Young women are doing things I did when I was young, there is nothing new under the sun…but a fresh idea is also nice!
Thanks for passing this along.

I’ve used jeans for hot pads and jean pockets for catch alls for my fridge doors. I’ve used t shirts to make satchets.

Maryb-
Love the idea for jean pockets on the fridge! great for holding a pen and scratch pad… I have metal cabinets over my washer/dryer this would be a good idea for in there too!
I’m always needing to take a measurement or make a note…
Love it!

. We use one pocket for a shopping list and coupons we might be able to use soon. And if we wanted to, we could bring the pocket with us.
I’m glad that my idea sparked a use for you!

I think you could write a book on this topic. Your ability to repurpose things amazes me!
Maryb:
What a great idea for using pockets! I have quite a collection I have cut from jeans and shirts and may have to try this.
