Quick and Easy Frugal Christmas Ideas (Not just for Christmas)
Last week I mentioned my daughter using a fleece blanket instead of paying the price for yardage fleece. Here's what she made with it:
She used some cotton baby shirts that were on sale (it's a brand that can be rather proprietary about their name), fleece blankets, some ribbon we had from the thrift shop, and thread. Adorable, isn't it?
Here's a quick and easy decoration craft- this is something the kids could do on Christmas day with leftover wrapping paper.
I mentioned this last year- you can carefully tear off the front of a Christmas card you've received and repurpose that card as a post card. Post cards are cheaper to mail, too! Obviously, you can do this with any cards, so long as they are the right size. Check with your post office (also obvious, I don't know the postal rules for other countries).
Just for fun- did you see my amazing five dollar thrift shop find? It's a high chair. Flip it over and it's a rocking horse. Flip it again and it's an old fashioned school desk.

This is a good idea, I had not thought of using the blankets!
At the top of your page it says “you are new around here, aren’t you?” NO I am not, I follow by email and love the ideas on your site!

Lehman’s catalog lists these Amish-made high chairs for quite a bit more than the $5 you paid. Even what would have been the full-price thrift store price would have been a deal. Great find!

i am always looking out for frugal ideas in sewing and crafting/recycling..this little dress is absolutely adorable. you are so right in the high prices of fleece fabric..ridiculous is’nt it. i was given a purple high quality fleece blanket and i cut it in half then hemstitched and crocheted a beautiful edging on both halves…two good sized baby blankets from a lap throw was the result that are now gifted to a pediatric oncology ward. no one was able to guess the origin of the fleece.

Unfortunately mailing a postcard here costs just the same as mailing a letter–so no savings except for the cost of the card. But we do use cards for gift tags and all that sort of stuff.
Just a note about thrifted or any other ribbon–something I just discovered by unhappy accident–some of it is not colourfast! I found this out while trying to wrap a cheerful red velvet-type ribbon bow (old, but still on the original spool) around something white. Instant red mess. Note to self next time: check it out first, especially with red. (In this case, the item was launderable and I think I got most of the red out.)
