It’s A Boy!

Noticing Husband’s quizzical look as I walk out of the grocery store with a bouquet of blue balloons emblazed with It’s A Boy, I got into our car with a smile. We were on our way to see our new grandbaby for the very first time! Firstborn Son and New Daughter would be celebrating their first anniversary with a two week old baby! Filled with the excitement of being grandparents for the very first time our hearts were bursting!

Next stop was an Italian restaurant we had found that made delicious sandwiches. I had ordered ahead and we were bringing this fare to the home of our children to celebrate this newly born grandchild. Husband, half in jest and with some seriousness asked which budget category this was coming from. I laughed as I am usually the budget stickler at our house. I assured him I had it covered and had figured out a plan. Gas prices were not going to keep me from a celebration, albeit small by some standards.

Words cannot express our joy at seeing our “little” guy. Did I tell you he weighed in at 10 pounds, 11 ounces? Oh, and I think he is the most adorable baby I have ever seen! What a precious memory it is to think back to all our family gathered around this precious baby.

Before our next day visit, Husband and I stop at the thrift shop. Husband is not an avid shopper, but he seemed to have no problem with this stop. You should have seen his face when I found the outfit with Grandpa’s Little Slugger on the front. Little boys and overalls have always been my delight! Now I had a grand time collecting some different sizes for our little boy.

We had time to take our treasures home and wash them carefully. My gift bag was stuffed with our name brand items and I was so thankful for thrift shops! Firstborn Son and New Daughter opened their bag with pleasure. They were grateful for the “new” clothes.

As I consider all the wonder of this past few days, I can’t help but remember the pleasure of our little splurges. Perhaps they mean even more when they are so carefully considered.

How about you? What do you splurge on in your frugal life?

Congrats! to the new Grandparents!

I splurge (definitely) on the GRANDS! But… I make allowances in the budget like you. It may mean- meatless a couple of nights that week…but we sure don’t suffer.
Think of the heritage you’ll be passing down to the next generation. (not the Thrift store items, balloons and sandwiches) No. think instead of the frugal ways and wisdom involved in each purchase!

Love it!
Pat

I am the proud grandmother of 4. It thrills me to have all of them here at the same time.
My splurge is always for the grand children.

Congratulations on your new grand child. It is a blessing to have grand children.
