Frugal Links Round Up – May 16, 2011
- Radical Frugality posted a handy Checklist for Saving Money on Food. At first glance it may look like all the same old advice, but I'd venture that most of us aren't being diligent about half of the items listed.
- How to Make a Budget (Even if You Hate Making Budgets) Seems like Miss Britt at In Pursuit of Happiness has been reading my mind. Making a budget is not the fun part. Reaping the benefits of living on a budget is the Happiness we're all in Pursuit of. ;)
- Frugal and Thriving has posted 45 Awesome Free Bag Making Tutorials - Find your favorite and never buy a purse or tote bag again. Or maybe you'd like to crochet your bags. No sense paying for crochet patterns when they're out there for free. If you don't know how to crochet you can learn here. And you can learn to sew here.
- Squeeze every penny out of your grocery budget by actually using your freezer for more than ice and whole chickens. That's about all I ever kept in mine until I took a freezer course. It's not hard, just learn to wrap/contain your foods and learn what foods freeze well and there you are. Freezable Foods - yup, you can freeze all this!

In 1972, as a new bride, in a new home, far from family (my husband was a Marine, we were in Quantico Va. base housing) we had Thanksgiving for several of my husband’s fellow Marines who did not go home. I had worked so hard to make a perfect turkey. I had it all ‘decked out’ on the platter and was taking it to the dining table when it fell off the platter to the floor. I was crying then…those Marines picked it up, put it on the platter, and ate it without batting an eye.

Picked up two chairs for my backyard off the curb last week before trash was picked up. Not exactally dumpster diving for food. But, waste not want not….I often find that the bit of extra time spent figuring out how to get something you want without parting with your $$ is well worth the effort. The chairs i picked up retail for $18 dollars a piece at target. So, I win! Cause I kept $40 bucks in my pocket and got two perfect chairs!

I have gotten kids’ toys off the curb before. They’re often in great condition; people just want them OUT of the house!
