Round up!
Good reads around the web:
- How To Find Coupons for Anything Online - I particularly appreciated the search engine tips.
- 9 Tips on Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner - We're on our 2nd summer without a/c in south Texas and doing quite nicely. This list sums up most of our own coping mechanisms. I would add ice - ice water, iced tea, slushies and smoothies. We also use the hose and a kiddie pool a lot. If you don't have a kiddie pool, try just swishing your feet and legs in cold water every now and then. Delightful!
- Starting a Kitchen Garden - I have a sort of a kitchen garden in containers on my deck. I only wish mine looked as pretty and productive as the photo in this article.
- The Cost of Being Single - We already knew that when it comes to running a household, everything comes cheaper by the dozen. That's why hubby and I have 10 kids.
- Home Improvement: DIY and Save Money - We're big DIYers. We built our own house from the ground up, doing the wiring, plumbing, drywall, and everything else - except the parts that aren't done yet. It's a lot of work, but the sweat equity is worth it.
- The Power of Delayed Gratification - This author recommends a 30-day waiting period before making a purchase, a great idea. One benefit that he doesn't mention is that holding off can sometimes yield a better price when things go on sale or clearance.
- Are You Spending Intentionally? - Frugal living is not about being cheap, or even about spending less. What is it? Frugal Dad hits the nail on the head.
- Effective Complaining - It's not fun, but sometimes complaining is the grown-up thing to do. Jut be sure to do it like a grown-up.
And last but not least, I'm including this beautiful piece of American ingenuity because according to the comments on the original post, this frugal hack really does work. And also because I once replaced a fuse in a string of Christmas lights with a tiny wadded-up ball of aluminum foil. I'm not recommending the practice; just confessing.

I would recommend the frugal blog “balancing beauty and bedlam.” I especially enjoy her ‘Frugal Fashionista’ series.

Glad you aren’t recommending this as it is incredibly dangerous.
