This depends entirely on the thrift store. It pays to know the practices of the ones you frequent. Some of our thrift stores never change the price of an item once it is marked and others have half price color tags every week and what does not sell on the weekend at half price goes to $0.99 on Monday while still another does the same but on a monthly basis.

It really depends on what you are looking for. January is great for picking up Christmas stuff for pennies at our local thrift store. They start at 50% off and go to 90% off. At the end of each season they will put the clothes of that season on 50% to 75% off, so you could buy next years winter coat for $20 or less if you buy it in March or April.

I think that early in the week, in the morning, is a great time to thrift because they have processed the donations that have come through over the weekend, and restock the shelves at night and in the morning before they open. I am finding, though, that you never can predict anything with thrifting, and the best practice is to hit the thrift stores regularly so you can learn what they have/where it is in the store/how often things go on sale.
