Miss Maggie (orginally from Hillbilly House Wife) now Frugal Abndance http://frugalabundance.com/
She’s the one who opened my eyes to what I was doing right & what more I could do.

My second (a very close second) is Crystal at The Family Homestead http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/
She taught me a lot too.

The Complete Tightwad Gazette is a definite must have book!?

Without a doubt it was The Tightwad Gazette. My husband bought it for me as a gift when we were engaged after I had read the library’s copy and almost cried when I had to return it. He did buy me a new copy, but I’ve read it mulitple times and use it as my go to reference for all things frugal! I love the fact that it teaches you how to think about frugality and really figure out the true cost of things. Then you can make similar decisions about things that are the most important in your own life.

The FZ is awesome!

Amy Dacyzn’s Tightwad Gazette, hands down! Her attitude toward frugality and her methods for deciding what’s worth it and what’s not changed me.

My mother.

An older (but only by a decade) couple at church when we got married and my husband joined the Air Force. They took us under their wing and had us over for dinner and advice. I have NEVER forgotten what they said: “You’re in the military, you have a steady paycheck and you can’t quit. EVERYBODY wants to give you credit. It adds up far more quickly than you think. A couple dollars a month here, five dollars a month there, and another ten dollars a month there will not seem like much, but you have no idea how quickly that will all add up.”

And the Tightwad Gazette books.

Hmmm. This is fun!

Book that taught me the most:

Tightwad Gazette, because it is more about strategy than tips.

What opened my eyes to new possibilities in frugal living:

the early message boards online, like Frugal Moms, Hillbilly Housewife and its later incarnation, Prairie Homemakers. I saw women living out frugality at all levels and willing to share.

What taught me a new frugal skill in an engaging or entertaining way?

This summer I have learned the most about frugality from the Lasagna Garden book. The author is very funny. For me it has been far more frugal than Square Foot Garden resources because it doesn’t assume you can take a couple hundred dollar trips to the store first.

I also have to agree with Amy Dacyzn’s Tightwad Gazette. I started subscribing just shortly after college. It really gave me a good foundation (well, coming from farming parents helped that too.) I still have all the old copies bound into folders. I am planning to read them again soon.

My mom was always frugal, learned a lot from her. Through the years I have adopted her frugal ways and mixed it with my own tips, making things eco-friendly as well. Refundsweepers and couponerswanted are both my favorite boards.
