Decluttering with a camera
Noah at Noprobo has some great tips on how to get the most out of Ebay while uncluttering your life and your home.
He suggests you start decluttering by making 4 piles of everything you don't regularly use: sell, give away, trash and memories. So far, so good. I've seen this advice and I think it's good.
Here's where he taught me a new trick:
Photograph Copiously: Take pictures of everything in your four piles. It’s often good to have a record of the things you owned and it appeases our pack-rat instincts. In this sense we can keep the memories of the items, without having them consume any physical space.
Remember, memories belong in your head, not your attic. In my opinion a digital photo is enough to rekindle that memory. If you really miss playing hands-on with that He-Man figurine so much, you can buy another one, but you won’t. After selling the contents of my life I can assure you I haven’t rebought a single item I sold. Once your memories pile is photographed, reconsider selling, giving, or trashing them as well.
I never thought of this, but it's so true. My pile of sentimental junk is in serious jeopardy now.

Thanks for featuring my article! To those hesitant about getting rid of their keepsakes: make the leap! With detailed photographs of every item, you can keep the memories, make more space, and loose the mental overhead of all that clutter.

Love this! I am an avid Ebayer as of the end of the fall of last year. I do it just to get rid of the stuff! I’ve had yard sales with not much success, but since the fall, I’ve made over $1000 and can’t beleive the things that sell so well! Perfume was my true success. That’s right used perfume. I went through me and hubbies collection of scents and sold all the ones we don’t really use. One went for $60!!!
