The New Quilt
Several years ago we purchased our first home. The master-bedroom had been painted a beautiful, pale shade of blue, and below the wainscotting we had lovely old fashioned blue floral wallpaper to match. The flowers were light and delicate, the old fashioned wood floors suited it perfectly, and the funny slanted ceilings and wavy glass in the windows added charm. I really liked it. However, the only bedspread we owned for our bed was a beautifully embroidered and appliqued quilt of very bright red hearts and redder flowers on a cream background. Picture a somewhat garish modern valentine against a background of blue willow design. Well, that might actually be stylish today, but this was some 15 years ago or so, and the two motifs jangled dischordantly.
I had always liked our quilt, but it clashed badly with our new room. It was a jolt every time I walked in the room. I wanted a new quilt, but since we'd just purchased a new home (and had completed a sibling adoption of two just six months before) money for extras was tight. I wracked my brains trying to figure out a way to come up with the funds for a new quilt that would match my blue bedroom. For weeks I winced every time I walked in our room and saw that splash of red and white quilt against a blue and white background.
Then one day I walked in to the room and suddenly realized the solution. I picked up the quilt and turned it over. The back of the quilt was a very pretty cream on cream outline of hearts and flowers. It looked perfect in the blue bedroom. Quiet, peaceful, and soothing. It was lovely.
Then I remembered that the best advice I ever received on saving money was to look at what I had in my hand rather than what I wanted to acquire. Sometimes, we just have to look at things the other way around to see the value of what we already own.

Oh so true. And your right often we have all me need and more just at our finger tips. If we just turn our thinking over and see things from a new angle.

don’t throw away those clothes that are outgrown, stained, or torn….start your own quilt….or get your family involved in collecting the color shades you want and simply make yo-yo’s for a yoyo quilt-not a true quilt but such a simple bad weather project that is trully quick and easy coverlet/bedspread and especially useful in warmer weather.

Amen, that is so true, we are always so busy looking for new, or bigger and better, we forget to look at what is right under our nose. This is very good, thank you and it seems God is showing me this very thing in many areas I look at.
