Cheerful Frugality Finds A Forum

Have you visited the Frugal Hacks forums yet?

Brought back fond memories for me. I learned about bulk cooking from my 1st frugal forum...just a new bride and her creaky dial-up connection.

I got my start at Frugalmoms.com (now defunct) and moved to Hillbilly Housewife then Prairie Homemaker.

What I enjoyed most about frugal forums is the sense of community.

Don't feel alone when calculating the cost per use of soap or planning a wood pallet project. If you're lucky, someone's already started a thread on that very topic.

On frugal forums, you'll always find someone more frugal than you are.  You might even help someone new learn the basics.

It's easy to enjoy saving money when you surround yourself with frugal friends.

When it comes to online pennypinching, which do you prefer: frugal blogs or frugal forums?

I would say blogs, just because I avoid forums because of the addictability and time stealing ability they pose!

I love them both:) There’s nothing like forums for the community just like you said. I have loved getting to ask questions and answer questions and build real (online) friendships. But blogs are so fun, too. I love getting a peak ino someone’s life and home.
I guess either way, the sense of camraderie is really the best part.

Have you tried FoodSupoort before? They partner with local grocery chains and offer free food cards. You can learn more about them at http://www.FoodSupport.org

I like blogs for quick tips and mood boosters throughout the day. When I have more time to read and participate, I like going to forums. I have found wonderful new blogging friends through the forums as well.

Do you really calculate the cost per use of soap? And if so, why? I mean, how could you reduce the cost (bathe less? wash hands less often?), so, I say, it is what it is. I mean, how much can it be unless you are using Chanel or something!

I mostly threw that out as a facetious example.

HOWEVER…

You will find MORE than 1 forum thread devoted to homemade laundry detergent and dish detergent, and people there are down to the penny calculating cost per use.

There’s also an age-old tightwad debate over whether unwrapping your soap for storage makes it last longer than keeping it wrapped until use.

I personally switched from Dove brand soaps to a Dial brand when I realized my husband used twice as much Dove as Dial. I think it melts faster in the water than Dial.

So, while my solution is not stinking, I’m not alone in making even everyday basics last longer.

Again Meredith is right!! Dove certainly melts away and is a prodigious soap scum maker. Hard soaps like Ivory, ect last longer, lather well and are CHEAP. I had a teenage friend of my daughter’s say She had never seen anyone use bar soap! Love Susan
