In my efforts to be more frugal, I offered to write a weekly column on it in the local paper. Nothing like a deadline and a little fishbowl action to make you live what you want to write!

I have come to realized that responsible living is the key to frugal living and financial freedom and that is where I want to steer all readers this year, no matter their financial status.

Happy New Year!

I have really been enjoying working on the conserving instead of consuming in our life. It can actually be quite adicting. :-)

i have always been quite frugal but now that i have been "layed off" from my part time job i guess i will be even more frugal..fortuneately i live 7 mi. from town, and 35 mi. from the nearest walmart supercenter.(lol) i am finding myself with extra time on my hands and have lined up some craft projects to do with my sister in law-to sell. i am lucky because i do not need the extra bit of cash to survive this economic crisis, however i love to save it up and treat myself to a trip or treat...

I'm so excited about the new year. 2009...wow! I'm planning on really focusing on producing and creating this year. We are finally going to put in a garden this year. It's just about a neccessity to accomplish my other goal which is higher quality meals for my family with a lower grocery bill. And I'm really ready to get my home shaped up. It's nice now (and I'm thankful to have it!) but since we bought it I've been either pregnant, nursing or both with no energy leftover for decorating. Now that I seem to have a bit of a break, I'm anxious to fix up the place a bit and since the money we have set aside for the downstairs is more constrution based than decorative...I'm going to need to get creative (or in my case, borrow ideas from creative people like you and adapt them to fit!).

I just posted about how we're going to act frugally by using up all of the shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap (even if we have to use up all of the mini stuff we swiped from hotel rooms) before buying anything new. You can read that post here: http://suddenlyfrugal.wordpress.com/2008/12/29/buy-less-stuff/

We are going on a financial "diet" this year to achieve future goals. I will be cooking with lentils more in order to stretch our meat budget. My family loved the lentil tacos and I have more recipes to try. I am also thinking about experimenting with tvp and tofu...we'll see.

I am going to cut down on our grocery budget by cooking more from scratch and using less convenience foods. We are going to eat out less as well.

I am hoping to plant some vegetables in pots like green beans and tomatoes. I don't know that I feel like planting a huge garden, but maybe someday.
