Reusable Wrappings
Here's a quick idea for those of you who have leftover fabric laying around- make your own reusable gift wrap! A friend gave me something wrapped in a homemade bag years ago, and while I don't wrap everything under our tree in reusable wrap, I've made at least one or two bags every year since.
Since my sewing skills are are....hmmm...no so advanced, I generally make a pillowcase and just tie it with a pretty ribbon. (Check Goodwill and yard sales- I've gotten tons of ribbon and fabric perfect for this type of thing for a song!) If you are feeling fancy, here's some directions on how to make a gift bag with a drawstring.
They take up very little space- I simply fold them and tuck them into my gift wrap area.

I have almost no sewing skills so I would probably just buy a second hand pillow case. This is a good idea though and especially good for anyone just starting out who needs an extra pillow case.

I totally love the idea of reusable wrapping, including pillow cases like Jenny above suggests. No sewing required. Just wrap like you’re using regular paper, and tie it up with a bow. I’ve covered this topic of reusable wrapping on my Suddenly Frugal blog a number of times.

I also made drawstring bags for gift giving (using Christmas fabric bought after Christmas). Another idea is the Japanese concept of furoshiki — squares of cloth which can be attached in various ways. Just google it to find instructions. To make furoshiki yourself, you only need to know how to sew a hem.
