The Bathroom Trash

I've mentioned here before that we use abucket designed for holding mop water for a bathroom trashcan.  I don't think I've explained just how marvelous I think this substitution is.   Here are some of the reasons why:

Price- bathroom trashcans are more expensive than cheap mop buckets- and a very cheap one from the dollar store works great as a bathroom trashcan

Convenience- it holds more and has a wider mouth, so less ends up on the floor.

Ease of emptying- my 10 year old son empties the trash cans.  Since the mop bucket trashcan has a handle and a sort of spout at one end, he finds it much easier to do this without leaving a trail.  It would have been really nice for him if we'd thought of this when he was younger.

Duel use- if you're pressed for storage space, combine mopping the floor with emptying out the trash- this way you empty the trash, clean the trash can out, and mop your floor on the same day, killing two or three birds with a single stone.

It is more utilitarian than decorative, but that doesn't bother me. For those it does bother- you could alter your bathroom decor so that it's all repurposed utilitarian items- an ash tray soap dish, a towel rack made from a paper towel holder or a broom handle, a mason jar vase with long handled dish mops inverted in it to look like funky flowers (Dish Scrubber Brush (Assorted) (9" Long) ~ ), framed pictures of cleaning supplies (taken from magazine ads)- or decorate the bucket/trashcan itself to match.
Or keep it in a cupboard under the sink so it doesn't jar your aesthetic sensibilities- I have them, too, but not about bathroom trashcans.=)

I love this idea and, since plastic mop buckets can come in many different colors, you can usually color coordinate with your bathroom. Thanks for the idea.
