Plant stand, foot stool, small child’s stool, end table, wedding decoration….

The place we're having the wedding (TOMORROW!!!!!!) doesn't have pews. There are stackable, movable chairs. We can't put up anything on the walls. So we're going to set these stands at the end of each row and put plants on them. Where did we get these stands?

We started with this:

Buckets from the deli or bakery- I used most of these for plants outside.
Fabric from the thrift shop- I got over 12 yards for 2.50! If they hadn't had the fabric, I would have looked at used tablecloths and sheets.

We did not even clean the buckets- just brushed the worst of the dirt off.
Then I taped the handles down (this is not necessary if your buckets have lids so you can use them right side up).

Then I started rolling and taping. I needed about an inch of overlap on the end of the bucket that would be on the ground, and it worked best to tape that in as I went along.

Once the inside was taped, I turned it over and taped down the fabric across the bottom of the bucket (or the top if it had a lid, some of our buckets did, some did not).  You can see what that looks like in the bucket on the right at the top.

Then I took a length of cord picked up on sale from the fabric store (still the most expensive single purchase of this project) and tied it around the bucket a couple inches from the top.

I like these so much I can see several different uses for them (see the title of this post). Add some 'cushion' to the top for a comfy stool. You can also fold and pleat the fabric as you go along

Off to decorate the reception hall.=)

You can get bar stool seat covers for the lids of the buckets.

And if you do not plan on moving them around much you can put rocks or sand (heavy items) inside to keep them from tipping over.
Clean the inside good and you can use it as a combo toy box and child’s seat in the bedroom or living room.
