Do It Yourself Saturday
Good morning everyone! I'm Emily and I blog at Remodeling This Life. For a few weeks now, I've been posting DIY ideas on Saturday mornings here at Frugal Hacks.
I love DIY because I value what DIY means. To me, it means taking time and care and energy to do something rather than spend money to consume one more thing. To me, it means taking the effort to learn how to do something more than swiping my debit card. It fosters creativity, makes me feel proud when a project is complete, and makes things more fun around my house. I love teaching my children how to make things, showing them what it means to be part of a team working on a project, and instilling in them a work ethic in a fun way.
And let's face it, in most cases, DIY is the frugal way to go when it comes to projects.
Around my house, we have DIYed our entire house remodel. Hubby changes oil in our cars himself. I have enjoyed learning how to refinish old pieces of furniture instead of buying something new. I love doing craft projects with my kids that we use as art around our home. There is a sense of pride when I look around me at all the things we have done ourselves. Yes, there is a dose of consumption tied to nearly every project. It often means buying materials and parts for projects and then building and making things myself. I do love a good repurposing project from something that would be thrown away otherwise.
Right now, my home has so many DIY projects going on right now, I don't even know where to begin in sharing them. So for today, I'd love for you to share here. Do you like doing projects yourself instead of buying something new? As you said this is the most frugal way to do things. Currently I am pulling out the old carpet that is in my house and laying down tile.
What do you like about DIY? The accomplishment of knowing I did it, weather it is perfect or not. I made my home MY home.
What don’t you like? Not knowing how to do the projects right the first time. LOL And not having the funds to do them all the way at times.
What is your favorite DIY project? Painting, as it changes a room so fast!
