Frugality Also Means Taking Care Of You

I spend a lot of time looking out for our family. Being frugal, to me, is making wise choices and the best use of our resources, and sometimes that takes time. But I can get caught up in the details and the minutae and start to ignore the things that keep me centered and able to handle all the bits and pieces of a life well lived.
If I don't take care of myself, I can't take care of others.
If I ignore the fact that I need some me time for too long, I start trying to grab snippets here and there where I can, or at least that's what I think. But I end up spending more time trying to fit time for myself in than I would if I just thoughtfully spent a little dedicated time taking care of my own needs. It might just be an hour to curl up and read a book. Or a long bubble bath with no kids climbing all over me. Or an afternoon playing with one of my children, without trying to do fifteen other things at once. If I stay in touch with what my heart and my soul really need, it makes me better able to handle all the other things I need to do without becoming completely overwhelmed.
It is when i ignore that voice in my head that I start to fritter my time wastefully instead of conserving it for the things I truly want and love.
Pay attention to your own internal barometer. Make sure that your time is being spent on what your heart needs as well as what your head dictates. Out of balance, you'll waste more time than you save.

Absolutely on target. It’s so easy to get pulled off base when we’re trying to ’save’ our family financial circumstances, and forget it’s all about the family! Good post.
