- Josh says: Rather than paying $20 a month for long distance service, then an additional $5-10 for calling plans we switched to an on line calling card called Onsuite www.onesuite.com
You charge your account using a credit card, and can make calls on your account from any phone (great for traveling). Rates are amazing, and best of all, there is only the per-minute fee.
There are two access numbers, local and toll free. You get better rates with the local number, but it isn't in our area, but still the rates are good.
Long distance in the US .029 per minute (toll free) and .034 to the UK.
At .029 you're basically getting nearly 70 minutes for free by canceling your long distance service.
Use promotion code (what they call Suite Treat) A78Q73966 and get an additional 5% on your first purchase. - Cheap/Free things to do in Boston

- Mrs. P's recommendation:
Save all large manilla envelopes! I use them to send my paperbackbook.com swaps, to store things in my classroom neatly (like scholastic book orders or permission slips.) It's one less thing to buy and all those pennies DO add up. - Katie has a post that describes how to use Ebates to make a little bit of extra cash on stuff you normally buy.
- Chris @ TheSnackHound says: I make my own salad dressing and use recycled bottles from a popular hot sauce. The great flip top on the bottle makes it perfect for preventing salad dressing dumping mishaps. Not to mention that the salad dressing has almost no sodium which is great for folks with salt restrictions or just think 500 mg of salt per drop of dressing is a little excessive.
- And from Penelope Pince: My sister Madoline and I put together a list of 101 Ways to Save Money in Everyday Life, most of which we practice in our lives. (broken link. Penelope, are you out there?)

@josh:
I completely dropped my landline and go Onesuite voip all the way to maximize my savings. Now I only pay $2.95 monthly service fee that includes a phone number and unlimited incoming calls. Calling out is @ 2.9 cents per minute anywhere within the US. $10 last more than a month. I still have my mobile though for emergency but thats another pay as you go plan too.

You can find a lot of good ebates, like the ones Katie suggested through the SlickDeals and FatWallet forums. If you’re looking for rebates or good deals on specific products, Thriftfeeds and DealHack are both good.
