From the mailbag: PayPerPost

I received this question from a reader:

Have you heard of PayPerPost.com? It’ seems like a great way make some money blogging, but it does ask for a social security number for tax purposes. I am trying to find out about this site. I know they have to ask for the SS# for tax purposes, it just always makes me edgy to give it out. Thanks.

Felicia

Have you used PayPerPost?  Do you still use them?  What was your experience?  Pros and cons?

I’ve used them and have had no problems with writing, getting approved, and getting paid (into PayPal). My only problem which has kept me from using them more is find topics I could write on: not so many options for Christian SAHM’s. LOL

I have used them as well, and they are legit. They pay one month after you post on a topic, and they need the SS number to send you a tax statement. I made several thousand dollars there last year and got my tax statement in January of this year. I have not had time to do these much this year, but plan to resume soon for the holidays. It is important to read and follow all of the rules, or your post will be declined and you will not be paid. They aren’t hard, and they do allow time for correction, but it can be frustrating in the early stages when you are trying to get it right. It is a breeze after that. You also need to be careful to keep page rank to get the best opportunities. If anyone has anymore questions, just email me (its in my profile) and I am happy to help or refer you (they do pay well for both referred parties!). I also have some links to some other companies I have posted for with success if you are interested. Best wishes!

Karen

I write for them - $250 so far. They are legit and good to work for. I recommend getting a Google PR of 3 before signing up.

I’ve used PayPerPost for a while now. I don’t really invest much time in it. It’s really easy to use and the cash for posts are good. All the requirements for each post are listed for you. My problem was the same as Beth (above). I only want to stick to posts that will actually benefit my readers, not just blatant advertising for money. If that is your bag however, you can make some great $$$ from it.

I used them for about 6 months and made over $260 with them. I had no problem with any security issues and got paid with no problems. I have stopped using them however, because I refuse to endorse a product that I don’t actually believe in. Although the opportunities for me were abundant at first, the number of things that I was interested in writing about steeply declined and I was not interested in and/or qualified for most of their posts, so I stopped using them. I just got my last payment and took down their badges and such from my site.

I now use their sister site Social Spark, which in my opinion has better opportunities and better customers. They too ask for your SSN. However, still no problems getting paid with them.

Good luck.

I also use a PPP called My Lot. There you can discuss anything under the sun and get payed while doing it. You won’t get rich, but you get a few cents per post, they do not ask for SS#. I have really enjoyed the site, and you also make money from referrals.Blessings Marilyn

I have used them for a while. You just have to remember to log in to check for offers. Then it’s on a first come first served type basis. The offers you that are available to you are based offer your blog’s google page rank and your blog’s traffic (visitors per day)… they call it real rank.

There are a few other “pay you to blog” sources out there as well.

such as:

http://payu2blog.com
http://reviewme.com
http://blogvertise.com

and others.

From my memory, each one does ask for your SSN. I’ve not had any problems with any of the above ones as far as getting paid, or getting offers from them.

Good Luck!

I tried signing up once and didn’t get excited with any opportunities, then decided to focus on my own blog and writing daily posts. I guess it works for others, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at them again.

I wrote a post or two for ReviewMe on a topic specific blog of mine and quickly abandoned it. I have a loyal reader base that was built from scratch with no intention of making money from blogging - shoot, when I started blogging, I had no idea that was even possible! At any rate, I felt I was cheating my readership - I didn’t like the implication that my opinion was being bought.

I sell advertising space and text links on that blog (which is a dubious practice if you care about page ranking and Google’s blessing), but keep all advertising out of my content.

I’ve been writing for Payperpost since last Oct. I’ve made about $1,200. Back last Oct-Jan there were TONS of opportunities that you could accept and write about. It has not been plentiful lately. But it truly is legit and financed last Christmas for our family! I love it and just wish there were more opps for me to write about.

As a reader I don’t like read blogs that have pay per post (and the like) posts. Since the bloggers have to use certain phrases/content in their posts it’s not an accurate discrption of what they truely feel or have experienced with the product or service. It’s like watching a paid TV ad in fake TV show form. I’m not a fan of those either.

I don’t think they pay enough to make money! I work with ShoreBank online promoting their high interest (3.5%) savings account (http://shorebankdirect.sbk.com/). In addition to knowing that your money is invested conscientiously – in these troubling financial days it’s good to know that it’s SAFE too! Be sure that your bank is FDIC insured, and also pay mind to other security measures. ShoreBank, for instance, has $2.2 billion in assets to add to its security.

(I am running across Julie of ShoreBank’s comment promotions everywhere, wow!)

On topic, I know a number of people who’ve had good, legitimate experiences with PPP. So I think it should be safe to give them your SSN. That said, I ended up deciding against it because I felt like it would hold my blog back. Among other things, BlogHer’s ad program (at least when I signed up for it) didn’t let in sites with paid content. And I wanted every post to be because I wanted to write it.

But some blogs with PPP do pretty well.
