Change is good

Show of hands: who saw me panic Friday night when I accidentally deleted the entire Frugal Hacks theme - header and all?  I was trying to update the snowflake background with something a little less wintry and decided to get rid of an old outdated version of the current theme so I hit the delete button.  Then I hit the "Yes, I'm Sure I Want To Do That Even Though It Can't Be Undone" button.  Then in a fit of paranoia, I surfed over the Frugal Hacks site and saw just what I never expected to see: the default wordpress template, looking about as pretty as a generic can of green peas.

No fancy header.

No red.

Not even a snowflake background.

aaaaaccccckkkkkkkkkkkk!

Did you hear me scream?  Did you hear the weeping and gnashing of teeth?  Did you hear me cutting deals with God and calling over my 13yo web designer daughter to help me find an old version of the header?

But all's well that ends well.  We found the header; I downloaded a new copy of the theme and uploaded it to the Frugal Hacks; I fixed a couple of small bugs in the theme for the second time.  And finally, I made the small change that started the whole mess in the first place.  Did you spot the new background?

And then, ever so carefully, I breathed a short silent prayer, and I hit the delete button on that old outdated version of the current theme.  And Yes, I Was Sure I Wanted To Do That Even Though It Can't Be Undone.  And when I visited the site in a small fit of paranoia, I saw my beautiful red theme with my beautiful header and a new background.

And I was happy, because change is good.

This is exactly what I needed to read tonight, Kim! I’ve just had a blog makeover and am in transition to my new design. A little scary, lots of backups involved, and some bugs to fix. But it will all get worked out! Change is good – it’s just not fun to be in the middle of it when things don’t go smoothly.

Because I have to minimize the page to a tiny box while at work, and the pennies wind up being right in the middle of the text. thanks.

No I didn’t see it, I was too busy brunching. But I was going to email you a week or so ago and ask if it snows in Texas, in May. ;) lol

I like the pennies.

Try working on a thesis paper for a college course for three weeks, finally finish it and do the spell check. Then highlight the entire thesis to change the font size to one point smaller, and hit delete accidently. Without even thinking or reading the print in the small box that popped up, I hit yes … to delete it permanently. I cried, screamed, yelled, ran outside and begged the gods to please help me get it back …
Then a friend came by and saw me on my knees on the grass crying and beating my fists on the ground and asked what on earth was I doing? I explained, and he came in … and was the answer to my prayers. He knew how to get stuff back.
I still don’t know what he did, but at least I made an “A” in the class all because of him.
Thank goodness for people who know more about this stupid electronic contraption than I do.

Anon,
I made the background behind the post content solid gray so that the pennies don’t intrude into the text even when the window is very small. Is that better for you?

Everyone,
What do you the rest of you think? I love the pennies and the way they stay put while you scroll down, but do others find it distracting or annoying?
