Recommended Site: Gift Card Center
You may have noticed the Recommended Sites in the upper left sidebar. These are paid links, but don't let that put you off. I've carefully checked each one, rejected several, and only accepted those that I feel offer real value to Frugal Hacks readers.
The latest addition is special to me because it allows users to contribute to a cause that our church helps support without users spending anything extra out of their own pockets! Have you ever used gift cards as a budgeting tool? I love this idea!
Here's how it works, from the website:
Have you ever had your last $20 in your purse, and been very stingy with it, making it stretch as far as possible? You knew once it was gone you were completely broke!
Gift cards give us the same opportunity. Rather than using your debit card at the grocery store and gas station, you will use a gift card. Every time you make a purchase, you will be reminded of how much you have left in your grocery, gas, or gift budget.
For example, let’s say I budget $25 a month toward “gifts” and I decide to buy all of my gifts at Amazon.com. I sign up to have this website send me an Amazon gift card on the fifteenth of every month. Throughout the year, as I look ahead at birthdays, baby showers, and graduations, I am able to remember how much of my gift budget is left, and how much I can splurge!
I can do the same thing with my $500 grocery budget (I get such great deals at Albertson’s with my coupons!), my gas budget (A&P), and my date budget. After six months, I will have stuck to my budget, and I will have contributed over $60 to the cause of Christ in Peru!
And here's the great part: I had the privilege of choosing the charity to benefit from the purchases of Frugal Hackers! Part of every purchase will go toward the Peru Mission. Our church has been supporting and communicating with this organization for quite some time, and one of our young men is leaving soon with a group of others to help build a medical clinic down there.

Great idea! I work for a company that manages gift cards. I don’t think a lot of people do what you do, but if everyone followed your example and didn’t lost their gift cards that would be awesome. Consider this: last year $100B was spent on gift cards and around $8B was lost/unredeemed.

Bummer – none of my local grocery stores are listed. The only thing we could use regularly would be a Marathon gas card. Have to ask DaHubby…
