Breathing In Some Inspiration

We are approaching our five year mark of living in our home. This is the longest we have ever lived in a house and I am beginning to see the dilemmas and joys of living in a space for this length of time.

The joy is, of course, having had all of this time to make our own personal stamp on our space. With the exception of a couple of rooms in the house, each one has gotten a fresh coat of paint, some have gotten fresh new carpet, and our art and photos are adorning our walls. Our furniture and style are evident in the way we have made our space and I love that each day this house shows and becomes more of us.

The downside of being in a home this long is how the clutter can begin to accumulate because we aren't always moving it. The other downside...the way that our home can begin to get stuck in a rut.

I get so much inspiration from other sites for how to bring new life into my old and tired spaces. This breath of fresh air could be something cut from outside and placed in the center of a table. It could be a pretty new window treatment. It could also just be a new arrangement of my furniture. It rarely involves a splurge, but sometimes it is just putting things I already have to good use.

If you are looking for some inspiration for your tired space, check out iVillage's Home & Inspiration Gallery. Don't look at the site as an opportunity to buy more, but look at it as a way to see how you could rearrange and repurpose all the great things you already have in your house.

Where do you find design inspiration for your own house?

What? No input? I need some help on this too!
Right now I’m getting ideas from one of my new books from Paperback Swap. I’m sure there are lots of titles on Home Decorating.
Clutter is our bogeyman in our small home, so I’m all ears if anyone has tips on organization!
For those who are interested I have started a series on Big Family in a Small Home over on my personal blog, Gina Says:

I tear pages out of catalogs and magazines of “looks” that I like, then hit the yard sales and try to figure out how to copy them for cheap. I did my whole dining room for about $300, including a new (to me) table and chairs, buffet, etc. I’m self-taught on sanding and staining, and then I’m willing to paint anything.

I also like library books. There are lots out there on how to redecorate for little or no money. I just rearranged my living room furniture, mostly to do some spring cleaning, but we ended up leaving it that way. It opens up the space! Also, you can have a second set of bed linens for summer than you do for winter. Change them halfway through the year for a whole new look.
