Showcase: Moolanomy

Pinyo blogs at Moolanomy.  His fast growing blog has already begun to attract a lot of attention and plenty of readers.

Tell me a little about yourself: who are you?moolanomy.jpg
First, thank you for the opportunity to participate in the Frugal Hacks' Showcase. My name is Pinyo. I am 34 years old, married, and my wife just gave birth to a baby boy. We live in Jackson Heights, Queens -- just about 10 miles away from Manhattan (aka New York City). I have a full time job, and my wife is a stay at home mom for the time being.

In my spare time, I like to blog, play video games, watch TV, read books, etc.

When did you start blogging? Why do you blog?
My blog, Moolanomy, started in July of 2007. Three reasons why I started include:

  1. To learn more about money management and become better at it
  2. To write daily and improve my writing skill
  3. To build an alternative income stream to partially replace my wife's income

I covered this in detail in a goal setting article I wrote earlier this year.

Do you feel your blog has a special niche of its own?
It's hard to be special when I am one among thousands of personal finance blogs. In any case, I enjoy working on my blog a lot. I cover personal finance topics very broadly, but with stronger focus on investing. In generally, I write about anything that's related to money, including frugality.

What does "frugal" mean to you?
I think being frugal means understanding the value of money and some of the trade-offs involved. Then use that as a basis to make informed decision suitable to my situation. I am not a frugal extremist, but I do value the concept. In short, I believe "frugal" means making the most of my money.

Why be frugal?
I think being frugal is an essential ingredient of wealth building and smart money management. Regardless of how much you earn and how good you are at investing your money, you can't really achieve financial freedom without a healthy respect for frugality.

We see plenty of examples of athletes and celebrities who make millions of dollars one day and end up flat broke afterward. The reason? They don't practice frugality.

Do you believe the saying, "you get what you pay for"?
I do. This is why I said being frugal means knowing how to make the most of your money. It doesn't mean spending the least amount of money. Often time, I will opt for the more expensive option because I know I will enjoy it more, have a better experience, and/or keep it for longer.

Again, thank you for your time and the opportunity for me to showcase on your blog. I would like to invite your readers to visit Moolanomy and take a look at what I have to offer. Take care!

Nice to get to know Pinyo a little! He has helped me out a couple of times by email, as I’ve been getting my blog set up. I am on the Moolanomy Subscriber List. Great Site!

Does the name Moolanomy have any special meaning?

Moolanomy…think about astronomy. It’s the science (or study) of money. :-)
