Preparing for Those Rainy Days

Posted by: guest on Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I am a Midwest girl and it seems I have no trouble preparing for the long and drawn out winters because I have always grown up with them. When that first day of really great spring weather comes though, I embrace it after the wintry days of cold, and I don't ever want to go back to that nasty weather again.

Unfortunately, along with that spring sunshine comes the rain and the days can be long with the kids indoors. I am trying to prepare this year and I put together a fun rainy day survival kit to keep them busy. The kids absolutely love it and it makes me smile that my son keeps asking if the ground is wet so he can play in his suitcase of fun.

When the weather gets too warm though, I plan to take advantage of the Cinemark movie program to beat the heat. For just the cost of a $.50 admission to a movie, it will be a wonderful and thrifty way to keep cool and should be a fun activity for me to do with the kids.

I am interested to hear, do you have anything you do to keep the children entertained when the weather is rainy or have any fun ways to stay cool? What is your saving grace when you have to keep the kids inside? Please share!

Well, I am not going to have the perspective of many of the readers, as I am not a stay-at-home mom. I work outside the house and let my son’s school handle the rainy days during the week. I’m lucky in that sense I guess. However, on the weekends, we try to spend a lot of time outdoors because my son is a rough-and-tumble 2-1/2 year old who loves to play at the park in our neighborhood, pick up rocks out of the driveway, or color with sidewalk chalk. I try to do crafts at least one day out of the weekend in the morning and find when it is raining either our craft time runs longer or we bake goodies, which he loves helping with and then helping to polish off. =) Nothing spectacular. Oh…and I get him to “help” with the laundry…he loves that.
