Reader hacks
My apologies for being so slow in sharing these. Some of you have fantastic ideas that others are sure to benefit from. Here are a few from the inbox:
- Free Peanut Butter in the Sunday paper! This one is time sensitive: Michele shared that Peter Pan Peanut Butter can be had for free this week. Participating stores will mark down the 18 oz. jars to $1 (or less) and your Sunday paper will have a $1 off coupon. Stock up! (Michele, what's the link to your blog? Maybe you have other deals to share...)
- Boltbabe solves storage problems: Need storage containers? Don't spend money on them, when you likely have the materials in your home to make your own. So don't throw them out!!!
- Boltbabe also tells us how to have healthy plants with FREE plant food and writes More on Food Budgeting.
- poetloverrebelspy says: There are many frugal benefits to nearby excursions vs. far-flung vacations. If you’re a traveler at heart but can’t pull yourself away from work or family for any number of reasons, consider planning a few days out to feed your travel bug. This post walks you through the brainstorming and planning stages. Read more here.
- Lori offers some great publicity tips for your blog: Looking for publicity for your blog or website locally? Call your local newspaper and ask them if you can write an article on bargain shopping. This is how I got the nickname of The Bargain Shopper Lady in the small town of Duncanville, TX. I wrote two articles which were published and the paper allowed me to include my website and email addres in my article. So far I have written articles on Saving money by Shopping Online and The Ins and Outs of Using Coupons and how to organize them, just to give you a few ideas!
You don't have to be a great writer, the editor will add the finishing touches to make your article sound fabulous. If one person learns more about being a good steward, then it's worth it to me!
Thanks for sharing your frugal hacks. Keep them coming and I'll help you share them with the world!

Something else to consider on publicity: Find out if your local newspaper has a blog site and what linkage possibilities exist for your blog.
For example, the newspaper where I work hosts “sponsored” blogs, which are a mix of employee and community blogs. See http://www.blogsmonroe.com
Other newspapers sponsor only in-house bloggers on their sites. But the newspaper or its individual bloggers sometimes include links to off-site local bloggers in their blogrolls.

Okay – it’s time I come out of the closet -
I love everyone’s blog – I’ve been stealing all of your wonderous ideas – I tell everyone of this fine place you’ve established on the web – I haven’t come out of the closet b/c of the following reasons:
1- i’m the sole bread winner in my household with a darling hubby and two littles -
2- i make over 100k annually in my career
3- my hubby lost his job last year and i give this site credit for saving me money/time/energy in pulling together meal plans, coupons, and happiness for my way of life now – I love that old-fashioned appeal ya’ll bring – i’m a domesticated female at heart, although my life is in high-heels most of the day.
4- i’m a christian woman and i love everyone’s blog – b/c when i’m having a bad day from a bill rolling in – i hack on the blogs and i grin from the simplicity of seeing a mom on another coast shout out about how she’s made her husband’s secretaries gifts for only 5 bucks with homeade treats because she’s clipped coupons for the ingredients all night -
i’m a working college-educated mama and loving wife and i want to know if there are more closeted sisters out there who are like me and haven’t come out yet -
I have some ideas of my own of how I keep it together in a challenging corporate environment, while meeting demands of home and my small biz while voluteering at the kids’ christian private school –
Can someone holler at me please? Love ya’ll and keep up the great blogs – my sweet life depends on your blessed words… working mama in the NW
god bless!
