Don’t pay: fix it yourself

Paying a pro is not frugal if you have the time, tools and know-how to do simple repairs yourself.

Many of us have more time than money, especially when the pro's time costs $60/hour or more.

As a one-time investment, a basic set of tools does not need to be prohibitively expensive; many household repairs can be done just a couple of screwdrivers, a pair of pliers and a bottle of glue.

And when it comes to know-how, the Fix-It Club is a great place to start:  This site provides simple online guides to troubleshooting and repairing 145 household items.  Your first successful repair will pay for that set of tools.

So get busy: fix the coffee maker, the leaky toilet, and the clothes dryer - if you use one.  Dryers aren't very frugal appliances, are they?
