Don’t pay: fix it yourself
Paying a pro is not frugal if you have the time, tools and know-how to do simple repairs yourself.
Many of us have more time than money, especially when the pro's time costs $60/hour or more.
As a one-time investment, a basic set of tools does not need to be prohibitively expensive; many household repairs can be done just a couple of screwdrivers, a pair of pliers and a bottle of glue.
