Saturday Savings Smorgasbord

My husband kindly decided that I needed a break from life, so he whisked us all away for a family day today!

We did a little window-shopping at a Victorian shop (I know, I know, after I wrote about not window-shopping!) and hit a quaint little cafe for lunch splitting an entree and a salad among our family to keep it inexpensive.

Then we headed to an apple cider mill and pumpkin patch. We about croaked at the number of people and high prices. It was $7 per adult just for admission in to the pumpkin patch - then you had to pay for the pumpkin, too! Of course they had some other amenities which came with that price (like a corn maze and so forth), but for $7 each, I don't think so. We decided to just split a glass of apple cider slush and an apple cider donut (less than $3 for both) and we'll pick out a pumpkin at the grocery store this week instead (where they are on sale for $3)!

At any rate, in the midst of all this, I forgot to put together my usual list of Saturday links for you all. And I really should be heading for bed. So instead of the usual fare, I'll just leave you with a quick few links from my blogs this past week:

Wondering what we subsist on for $35 a week? Here's an example. (By the way, there are some great frugal meal suggestions here.)

Needing some frugal snack ideas? Look no further.

And that's all for this week, folks!

Well, around here its $10 for just the corn maze. We’ve been wanting to take our kids to one, but for $40 for the family, I could practically grow my own corn maze.

We wanted to get some late-season variety apples, and our regular apple orchard was closed already — so we went to the “big deal” orchard around here on Saturday. $4 per person admisssion to the “fun area” — which was just scarecrows on display, a slide, big wheels to race, some tire swings, and a “petting zoo” where you couldn’t pet the animals: you could just spend a quarter to buy food to feed them. They had pony rides : *another* four dollars! And a duck pond: a dollar a game! The apple prices were all right, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be going back.
