My Granparents got married during the Great Depression and it colored the rest of thier lives. My Grandfather used to save "blinks" on the car by turning off the turn signal half way through the intersection!

God bless him!

Rachel,
That reminds me of the time that an elderly lady friend of our family gave my dad a birthday card.
It wasn't written in, and almost before he had finished reading it she was reaching to take it back.
My dad wasn't too sensitive to have a good laugh over it, right then and there. :)

My family was (still is kinda) a big re-user of Christmas and Birthday wrapping paper. My Dad also still cuts the front flap off Christmas cards (the part with the picture) and re-uses them as gift tags the following year. The later is a little too frugal for me.

My grandma would rinse her used paper towels and set them out on the countertop to dry so she could reuse them. It was a *very* delicate task. She lived with us and wasn't accustomed to my mother's love of paper towels--couldn't stand to throw something away after one use. I used to chuckle at her but now I wish I'd paid more attention.

Someone told me the other day they cut whole milk in half with water to make "2%" milk. That is too frugal for me!

Thanks for checking out my post FrugalMommy! :) Frugality is such a sport and it's so interesting how everyone can have a different take on it. My grandmother was the queen of frugality -- recycled gift wrappers were the norm in my household!
