Great deals on bookshelves

bookshelves.jpgMaybe it's not frugal to fill your home with books, but then again maybe it is. Most of our books were purchased used and deeply discounted, so for less than $4 (usually far less, esp. if we get them from PaperBackSwap***) we have an item that will provide entertainment and/or edification to countless people for generations to come. That does sound rather frugal, doesn't it?

At any rate, we had accumulated far more books than bookshelves, and I was praying just a couple of days ago that God would provide some affordable shelves. This week's sale at Staples was quite literally an answer to prayer.

Staples has many of their bookshelves for half off now through Saturday, October 13. Just a few days ago, we received a coupon in the mail offering $30 off any purchase of $150 or more, making the deal even sweeter! Shipping is free on orders over $50, so there were no additional charges other than the inevitable sales tax.

If you received a Staples coupon and won't be using it, would you kindly post the code in the comments so that other can have a shot at it? Each code is good for only one use, so let's share nicely.

tip: to get the best bang for your buck, buy 6 of the 6' tall units for $24.99 each. Add a $.69 pack of paper clips to bump your total over $150, then use the coupon. You just got $300 worth of bookshelves for $120, or $20 each, and you didn't spend a dime on gas getting them home. Try to beat that, even at a thrift shop!

***PaperbackSwap is an online service that lets members list and request books from each other for free. For each book that you send out, you can request a book of your choice for free. All you pay is the outgoing shipping on books that other members request from you.

When you sign up, list 10 books (paperback, hardback or audio) that you'd like to give away and you can request 2 books immediately, free of charge. You will receive more credits toward books when members request your books. Each book earns you a single credit, which is all you need to request another book.

You can also earn free books by referring new members. That's why I'm taking the time to explain all this. Just tell 'em Kittykait sent you. Please? :)

You know, I just realized I just recv’d a book from YOU via Paperbackswap.com. I thought I recognized your nickname, I’ve been reading your blog for at least a year and a half and now I’ve won a contest and received a book from you via my almost fave site, too funny!

Lisa,
How funny! The blog world is smaller than you’d think, isn’t it?

Yep, we got a CD from you all, too! My hubby and I always get a kick out of the fact that almost everything we order from PaperBackSwap comes from someone we know. :) Guess we all like the same books!

Got my desperately needed cheap bookcases! Thanks for the link.

This coupon code expires tonight – maybe someone on the West coast will see it? :-) I figure the sale expires tomorrow anyway, might as well post it. We used the other code in our email to discount ours, can’t wait to find a home for some of these stacks in our bibliophile house!

Oh, forgot to mention that it’s $20 off of $100, so still makes $20 bookshelves, just you only have to buy four! Hope someone can use it.

love to find avid readers! I prefer having more of an “open” bookshelf so what I have done is to buy the video racks: for the VHS movies; absolutely perfect to put your paperbacks in esp tilted just enough to easily see the names, authors; & yet open enough to please me; not huge blocked areas of home; have 2 long shelfs above washer/dryer which I have stocked nicely with non paper back books; & have in past utilized the shelfs in closets for the same! this despite the fact that I give books away a lot (yikes!) much rather read that watch TV; so does my daughter & grandkids! happy reading!
