Abbi blogs at Proverbs 31 Living.

Why do you blog?
I found some of the blogs on the frugal blogroll and enjoyed reading them and as I did I kept thinking, “Oh I would like to write on this” or it would make me think of something else similar that would be fun to write about. I had been considering for a while trying to write a book about some of the frugal things that I do and I decided that a blog might be a good start for that dream.

What does "frugal" mean to you?
Being frugal to me is being careful with what you have, not being wasteful. Being able to live without having to spend a lot of money.

Why be frugal?
Being frugal makes it so that we can live comfortably, not be drowning in debt (not fun!!). Also I have the great joy of being a stay-at-home mom. That is one of the possible rewards of being frugal and I love it! Being frugal also allows you to be more generous to others.

Do you think there is a downside to being frugal?
No, I really don’t.

How important is frugality to you? Casual interest, hobby, lifelong habit, or insane fanatical obsessive compulsion?
Frugality is a life long habit for me because I was blessed with 2 wonderful and frugal parents. That has made it way easier for me but I do still have my little struggles with wastefulness. It is also a hobby for me. I love setting goals for myself like:”how long can I go with out buying any clothes?” or “How many things can I make out of an old t-shirt that would otherwise be thrown away?” or “How low can our food budget go?”

Do you believe the saying, "you get what you pay for"?
No! I do believe it is important to look at the quality as well as the price however. Sometimes the cheapest isn’t really the most frugal choice in the long run.
How does the rest of your family feel about your frugal ideas?
Mostly they appreciate them a lot. My husband and I work together well. Sometimes he does have to reign me in when I start having more zucchini than meat in the meatloaf and other things like that. The kids are learning about money management and the love to help out on all of my frugal projects!

Thank you for participating, Abbi!

Abbi, I need to work harder on setting goals like that! I do agree that frugality, when treated like a game, makes the challenge a lot more fun!
