Peanut butter is my mom's old standby for chewing gum in little girls' hair, and hubby is a big fan of dishwashing liquid instead of stain removers on clothes. For a cheap detangler, we refill the spray bottle with a bit of hair conditioner and add enough water to fill it up.
Have you found unexpected uses for common household products?

I use rubbing alcohol to clean my bathroom fixtures, mirrors, and granite countertops. Nothing shines to a polish quite as well!

Once my daughter made a huge mess with chewing gum in the car. I had nothing with me (of course) but I found that hand lotion will also take gum off stuff.
I use baking soda as a mild abrasive for cleaning.

shaving cream (the plain foam, not the gel) can be used to clean sneakers.
those dumb “fake” credit cards that come with applications sometimes in the mail can be used as a food scraper for teflon or baking stones-like the Pampered Chef scrapers except more flexible, and of course free!
