Introduction to Entertainment on a Budget

Well, I must admit that I am feeling a bit out of my league to be asked on as a guest author. The ladies that have been included on this are considered to be some of my personal frugal heroes so I am excited to be chosen to help cover topics on here.

Let me start by introducing myself! My name is Amy and I run the website MomAdvice.com. Our site includes two blogs that I maintain called The MotherLoad and the Aldi Queen.

I started my website because my husband & I were really struggling financially. We had a long dry spell, with my husband unemployed for almost an entire year, and we had never been more broke in our life. We had tried juggling the children and attempting to make two incomes, but I really wanted to be home with my kids more than anything. The bills did need to be paid though so we had to find a solution to our debt and finances, but that would also allow me to be home with our kids.

I began checking out books and reading websites on personal finance. I basically became a human sponge and would read anything and everything that included how I could save our family money. Learning how to stretch my dollars became something that I was passionate about and I really wanted a format to share all of the things that I had learned. Lucky for me, my husband is a web designer and believed in my vision too. We pooled our talents (my knack for writing and his for design) and have made a safe place for moms to learn how to save money, to interact with one another, and to empower women to be smart with their money.

I have been doing my website for a little over three years and feel so blessed to have had the experiences that I have had because of what I get to do. The experiences that I have gotten to be a part of and the people that I have met (in person & online) have made me proud to be part of the community that we have made.

I was asked to cover the topic of entertainment on here and I will be sharing more on this category each Tuesday.  I am sure you are wondering just what makes me qualified to discuss the topic of entertainment. Well, let me share a little bit about myself that would explain why I chose this topic.

First of all, I can tap dance. My dancing makes me a crowd favorite at any party and it provides great entertainment. I used to tap dance my little heart out, years ago, and I was good at it. Ballet? Um, not so good...but isn't tap dancing much more exciting anyway?

I also think that my family finds me quite amusing and my mushy mommy brain seems to add to how amusing I truly am. Now that I think about it...I am not sure if they are laughing with me or at me. I will need to think about that one some more.

Finally, I just adore entertaining and since our family is on a very tight budget, I have learned how to entertain without overspending. I am often blown away at the amounts of money people will spend in this category so I will hopefully be providing entertaining pieces on entertainment (I had to throw that one in there!)

My entertainment category will be a broad one and I plan to include things that will entertain you, your children, your entire family, and your friends. I hope to come up with some great ideas that will make you look forward to my post each Tuesday.

And maybe I could do a tap dance too...but we shall see!

Glad you’re joining us, Amy!

I’m still training myself not to freak out when it comes to entertaining, so I’ll be looking forward to your insights.

Alas, my agonizing years of tap and ballet lessons did not make me the life of the party.
