I am a Frugal Subversive.
Thanks to Jenn at Frugal Upstate, Frugal Hacks has won its first award!
The purpose of the award is recognize bloggers who consistently turn their backs on consumerism to live frugally in a creative and authentic way. Recipients generally nominate 3 other bloggers to receive the award.
Meredith at Like Merchant Ships has already received this award, of course, so I won't be naming her. She is the queen of gracious living and cheerful frugality.
1. My dear friend the Headmistress of The Common Room really deserves this award, and she is my first official nominee. I just emailed her this morning about her unique (subversive?) take on thrifty living. Anyway, we live parallel lives (she said so herself) so we ought to have the same awards, right?
Incidentally, I started this post even before I had invited the two ladies above to contribute to Frugal Hacks. They just happen to be two of my very favorite, long-time frugal-blogging reads.
2. I'm also going to nominate Motherload: The MomAdvice.com blog. This is a new read for me, but Amy has a wealth of useful material on her blog and you know how often "frugal" and "family" go together. I guess you could say that "kids" and "subversive" go well together too, so we have a perfect fit!
And one more:
3. I'm also going to nominate Crystal at Biblical Womanhood. Although her blog isn't about frugality, good stewardship plays a large role in a Christian woman's life and Crystal's blog is about all the aspects of a Christian womanhood. She is by no means limited to shopping but she does have an incredible amount of wisdom to share when it comes to saving on groceries!
Now it's your turn: Have you been nominated as a Frugal Subversive? Let us know in the comments. Frugal Subversives, unite!

Congrats on the nomination! It’s a strange name for an award, though…I can only assume she refers to the “revolutionary” rather than “treasonous” definition!

It is a funny name when you think about it! But I think that Rhonda Jean of Down-to-Earth, who started the award, hit it right on the money.
It does take an inner rebellion to turn against a culture of excess and consumerism.
I have always joked that yard sales are my way of subverting the retail economy.

My husband & I talk about our frugal exploits as “beating the system” — the overpriced, overly trendy, not-as-good-as-homemade system of consumerism. I get a huge charge out of beating the system!
